Every March, Hamilton-Wentworth Area Scouters gather for an evening of fellowship, to honour worthy Scouters and Youth for their service to Scouting and the community.
This year, 225 attended the 2016 Banquet, which honoured 22 youth recipients, and introduced the new Hamilton Med-Vent Team. The awards recipients included Chief Scouts, Queen’s Venturers, Order of the Maple, and Meritorious Conduct. 61 Scouters earned Long Service Awards this year, with a total of over 1295 years of service credit. Hundreds of Certificates of Commendation were presented during the past year, and 80 Scouters were recognized with Awards for Outstanding Service.
The theme of this year’s banquet was the Canadian Path, highlighted with Greg White’s interesting presentation. We were honoured that our National Commissioner, John Estrella, was in attendance this year, and congratulated many of our award recipients on-stage. The ‘Six Knot Challenge” was very capably demonstrated by two youth from the 81st, Natalie Gordon, and Draik Maskell, who were then honoured with the Order of the Maple, and a letter from the Prime Minister of Canada.
Highlights of the evening, included Years of Service Awards for Don MacAngus, Rick Provo, Bob Lewis and Jim Carey (50 to 60 years apiece), and the Silver Acorn Award for Geoff Macquire, Sandra Taylor, and Robert Pissey. We were greatly privileged to present John Aikman with two special honours, the Award for Meritorious Conduct, and the Award for Fortitude, and thank him for his many years of service on the Honours & Awards Team.
